Careers

San Clemente High School is committed to the delivery of quality Careers education and counseling. Careers at San Clemente is delivered in partnership with St Mary's High School, Gateshead and St Pius X High School, Adamstown. The Careers Counsellor attends the schools on the following days: St Mary's- Mondays and every second Friday St Pius- Tuesday and Wednesday San Clemente- Thursday

Every other Friday the counsellor is at St Francis Xavier's College, Hamilton working in conjunction with the Careers Adviser there.

The Careers program is primarily focused on Year 10 students with introductory work done with Year 9. Students attend a number of Career Focus Sessions throughout the year. These focus sessions concentrate on Marketing for Casual Work; Career Testing and Job Investigation; Introducing the Higher School Certificate; Post School Options such as Apprenticeships, Traineeships, TAFE and University; and the School Leavers Program.

Guest Speakers visit the school to speak with students and provide them with current information regarding choices for Years 11 and 12, University, TAFE, Group Training Companies etc. Students are also given the opportunity to attend community events such as Careers Expo in May; Pathway Options evenings involving TAFE, Newcastle University and Centrelink and the University of Newcastle information day in June.

Students can book into to see the Careers Adviser at the office at school. Students are welcome to come and discuss career options, TAFE, University, Apprenticeships, Tax File Numbers, Work Experience, etc

Work Experience is run in a limited capacity and is offered to students who do not wish to continue their education into Years 11/12. So students who are going to be looking for Apprenticeships or other work opportunities will be offered the chance to engage in some experience with local employers.
